VBS ROCKS!
The cross shook, literally, as it stood center stage. The one hundred and twenty VBS (Vacation Bible School) kiddos and seventy volunteers did their thing. Swaying to the beat of what just went down this past week—the little country church was rocking!
The resurrected faces were proof in the pudding that it had been one dandy week. The rock upon which we stand still stands and don’t you believe for a second it doesn’t! On Christ the solid rock we stand, all other ground is still sinking sand. But this little white church countryside—smack dab in the middle of Minnesota—got it.
Someone had forgotten to mention to them that the world was changing and that their faith filled foundation was no longer relevant. No one was going to rock their boat—they knew more. You see, more will be expected of those to whom much has been given as spoken of in Luke 12:48. But it wasn’t the expectation that brought them here—to the little white church in the country. You see, they could not help put pour out that which had been poured in. They knew more because for years now—the older volunteers have been tag teaming the college kids as they arrived back into the fold for such a time as this. The college kids then tag teamed the teens who now stood beside them—waiting in the wings to lead. The teens then led the little ones who will one day lead little ones and so it goes. Passing faith on which has been passed on to us…is a generational gift given not only to us—but to others whom we pour it out upon.
Psalm 145:4 speaks: “One generation commands your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.”
Psalm 78:4 speaks: “We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power and the wonders he has done.”
Deuteronomy 7:9 speaks: “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.”
Psalm 102:18 speaks: “Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.”
Joel 1:3: “Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.”
When you hear about a VBS going on in town, go volunteer, bring your kiddos, bring your grands, bring your neighbor—so that the next generation might know of the glory of our precious God, our Rock and our Redeemer. Amen.
