Daily Meditation for March 14, 2025
The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple happened liturgically in January. Yet, the lessons within that scripture passage remain alive because they are needed NOW more than ever. What are these lessons? Three words jump out: faithfulness, patience and gratitude. Simeon believes God. He has waited his whole life to see “the consolation of Israel,” the promised Messiah. When he holds the baby, Simeon praises God. Anna, too, has waited eighty-four years “looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.” She breaks out in praise when she sees the child. Both demonstrate faithfulness, patience and gratitude. What do we, the people of God, long for today? Do we trust in God’s faithfulness and help? Do we recognize Christ among us? In our finding, do we praise God with hymns and songs of gratitude? Luke 2: 22–38 is a scripture story that can be read and lived again and again.
