Daily Meditation for March 3, 2025
One dark night, a certain holy man was passing a dry well when he heard a voice calling out from the well. “What’s the matter?” he shouted down into the well. “I am a teacher of grammar and was on my way to school when I accidentally fell into this dry well.” “Hold on friend,” replied the holy man. “I’ll just fetch a ladder and git you outta there.” “One moment,” replied the teacher, “your grammar is terrible.” The holy man replied, “If my grammar is so much more important than what’s essential, you can stay where you’re at until I’ve learned to speak properly!” With that the holy man continued on his way and the teacher was left to ponder what is essential. During this season of Lent, we are invited to ponder what is essential, important and necessary in our relationship with God and with others. Let us ponder carefully as we make our decisions and choices.
