A child looking at a stain-glass window which depicted a saint defined the figure as “someone who lets the light shine through.” The change from multiple grains of sand to glass requires a radical transformational process. With that thought of transformation one may be able to relate this change to the sacrament of baptism in the person receiving this sacrament. The Catechism of the Church alludes to this light shining through the newly baptized as it speaks of baptism. The reference given here is a quote from this document and relates to the receiving of this sacrament. “Having received in baptism the Word, the true light enlightens every person. The person becomes enlightened. She/he becomes light in her/himself.” In receiving this sacrament, each Christian is that saint, as described by the child quoted earlier, the one who is the person where “the light shines through.”
