Daily Meditation for February 17, 2025
At the wedding at Cana, Mary and Jesus each say something fairly ordinary to the servers: “Do whatever he tells you,” and “Fill the jars with water.” From the servers’ response emerged extraordinary results as water was turned into wine and the disciples began to believe in Jesus. Forty-two years ago, on February 19, my (now) husband asked me an ordinary question: “Would you like to go to a dance with me tonight?” “Yes!” I said. From that spontaneous first date emerged a long partnership that neither one of us could have foreseen. What ordinary statements or questions have you said or received that led to extraordinary things? Perhaps a suggestion that led to a new job, or an invitation to coffee that started a friendship. In these days of ordinary time between Christmas and Lent, may we listen for the ways in which ordinary comments can fuel extraordinary results.
