Daily Meditation for May 25, 2026
The month of May is filled with school-related events. For many, this month will mark the end of one way of learning and the beginning of another: Milestones, every one of them. St. Benedict’s Rule describes yet another kind of school, one established for the Lord’s service. Developed in the sixth century, the Rule presents a practical and spiritual guide for anyone wanting to live a Gospel-based life. This school offers a disciplined environment, a balanced approach, and the support of fellow learners. The Rule cautions that the lessons may be difficult at first, but as the seeker continues to grow in humility and trust, that student will soon be running forward, their heart expanding with overflowing love. This Rule is followed in many monasteries; it has also become central to the spirituality of lay Christians across the world. Life-long learning occurs when one chooses to enter this school of the Lord’s service.
