Daily Meditation for May 19, 2026

In today’s gospel, Jesus says: “I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world.” I found it hard to connect with this passage because I have never experienced Jesus being physically present like he was with Mary, the other women and the disciples. How unsettling and confusing it must have been for them to experience Jesus’ death and then his resurrection appearances! So instead, I focus on what I have experienced, how the resurrected Christ remains present among us, appearing partially and incompletely through others. Reflecting on this Easter season, I’ve experienced the resurrected Christ as a loved one started their recovery from alcohol use, as other loved ones continue to encourage two people who are estranged from each other, and as the Artemis astronauts shared their unique perspective of our earth from the vantage point of outer space. Thank you God, for being in the world with us in these ways!
