Daily Meditation for May 18, 2026

Our faith is not always steadfast; it rises and falls depending on our current situations and feelings.  This was true of Jesus’ closest followers, too.  John’s Gospel tells of a dialogue between Jesus and his disciples in which he addresses the fragility of their faith in Him. But He adds that He can overcome their weakness.  His words bring comfort and hope: “You will have trouble, but take courage.  I have conquered the world.”  Jesus never promises His followers an easy road, a smooth passage.  He himself has had to face many difficulties in His mission to call forth a new, closer relationship between humans and their God.  The world around Him praises Him one day and the next is reviling and rejecting Him.  The disciples had their weak times, but in the long run they overcame their fears, their fragile faith and so can we.
