Daily Meditation for May 12, 2026
Every morning, I go to my meditation space to read and pray. It is a daily practice that is essential for preparing myself for the day. Each piece is there: my chair, little table, candle, icons, books, pillow. I bring my coffee cup and muffin. As I settle in, my cat joins me. She sits on my lap, warming my knees. We sit together quietly, our breathing gradually syncing. I read a few lines out loud and she responds with a tail switch, chirp, or yawn, but she stays. We begin our day together with this routine. In our human-feline partnership, we praise God, pray for our world, and bless the morning together. In my neighborhood, our human-pet relationships have kept us from isolation. Dog-walkers greet one another, cat-people invite neighbors to coffee. Sometimes our animal connections can open the door to deeper human community.
