Daily Meditation for February 26, 2026
Early in this season of Lent, some words of Jesus to guide us on the journey toward Easter: In everything, do to others whatever you would have them do to you (Matthew 7:12). This is more than a mere suggestion, advice to take or leave as we wish. The admonition, from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, is of such supreme importance that we refer to it as “The Golden Rule”: Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. We look at the world around us, wonder how we have turned this entirely upside down. This straightforward and unequivocal rule has somehow lost its luster. What could any one individual do to make a difference? A lot. Never underestimate the power of a simple act to change your own heart, and then another, and another. Be kind. Be grateful. Be the first to show respect. Welcome a stranger with a smile. Offer a helping hand. Refrain from judging. Small things like these are golden, adding to the richness of Lent and preparing us for the joy of Easter.
