Daily Meditation for February 16, 2026
There’s a passage in I Kings, Chapter 19, verses 11 and 12 with which most Christians are familiar. It concerns the prophet Elijah waiting for God to pass by. A strong and violent wind springs up, but God is not in the wind, neither is God present in a subsequent earthquake or fire. In these tumultuous days, we can feel that we are beset by disaster and ask, “Where is God?” As we go through times where violence, injustice, racism and lawlessness seem to prevail, take some time to wait. God is not in the noise and turmoil. God will come, as the Bible promises (depending on the translation), with a still small voice, a gentle whisper, a light silent sound. We are now in the moment for which the Year of Hope prepared us, holding to our Christian values as we wait to hear God’s voice in the silence.
