Daily Meditation for April 29, 2025

Concern for the common good—the community, rather than oneself—is the focus of the Acts of the Apostles, chapter four, verses 32–37. We are presented with a picture of the early church at its best. The author tells us that “the multitude of believers had but one heart and one soul and all things were common to them.” To have but one heart, one soul is to be in tune with one another, to acknowledge and share other’s joys and sorrows, abundance or lack of it. What was true of the early church is true for us today. We see humanity in all its pluses and minuses; some having much, others having little; many experiencing loss, fear, despair and indignities. We are meant to confront these, for as Acts continues, “Nor was there anyone needy among them.” True Christians believe and act accordingly.
