Daily Meditation for April 14, 2025

The days are lengthening and in many parts of the northern hemisphere, green shoots are appearing with their promise of new life and growth. How do these seasonal changes in nature relate to our experience of the liturgical season of Lent? Lent is often seen as a gloomy, austere time; yet all around us creation is shouting that new life is budding. In fact, that’s what Lent is doing, too. Lent is the path to Easter, which is the ultimate testament to life. We should tread this path joyfully, filled with hope and anticipation. It is a time to focus our thoughts on the mystery and great love of God, on the miracle of the Incarnation, through which the Son of God became one of us, and lived and died for our good. Lent walks us to the cross, but it also leads us to the Resurrection and the promise that new life springs eternally.
