Daily Meditation for April 4, 2025

“No act of virtue can be great if it is not followed by advantage for others. So, no matter how much time you spend fasting, no matter how much you sleep on a hard floor and eat ashes and sigh continually, if you do no good to others, you do nothing great.” This quote comes from the fifth century Archbishop of Constantinople, John Chrysostom. It’s a good reminder of how connected we are as human beings. What John said is as relevant today as it was when it was first written. Whatever your Lenten practice, may John remind you that at the heart of everything we do lies the desire to build a closer relationship with God. We can only move closer to God through the love that we show in our actions to others. Reflect: How are you showing love this Lent? Whose life is better because of you?
