Daily Meditation for October 23, 2026
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.” (Ps 118:24)
My children learned this song in Sunday School many decades ago. We sang it then as an echo: “This is the day (this is the day) that the Lord has made (that the Lord has made)….” And if we could sing it again—together, in echo—it would end with smiles and a few tears. It would remind us of years past, when life was simpler in some ways and fraught with growing-up problems in others. And it would bring home powerfully the recognition that each day over all those years was a day that the Lord made. Through milestones, illnesses, accomplishments, and failures we celebrated and commiserated, learning to acknowledge that each day was the Lord’s. We might not have remembered to rejoice in every one, but in retrospect we know that God blessed us daily in some way. Let us breathe these words each morning as we anticipate the presence of God in every minute, in every way.
