Daily Meditation for September 4, 2026
What’s the point of a holiday weekend? Is more than time off work? Yes! It’s a way of taking to heart what the Bible tells us. In the creation story, after working six days, God rested on the Sabbath day. This establishes the holiness of setting aside a time simply to be rather than to produce. In the Gospel of Mark (6:31) Jesus invites His disciples to “come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” In other words, Jesus blesses the idea of taking time off. As we celebrate Labor Day weekend, let’s remember that it’s not only about recognizing the value and dignity of work; it’s about the need to balance work and leisure. Enjoy the weekend, not only because you don’t have to work but because it is positively a way of taking holy time to renew ourselves in body, mind and spirit.
