Daily Meditation for October 20, 2025

“Look for the face of God.” “I looked for the face of God.” These quotes from Psalm 27 are both an invitation and a challenge. The challenging response to look for the face God is wrapped in the question, “Where do I seek the face of God?” That answer will vary for each person. Perhaps it is the midst of family members and friends. Or more challenging, it may be seeking God’s face in those more removed from us and those around us.

Relate the situation of people seeking safety and shelter from threatening environments to the story of St. Joseph taking Mary and the child Jesus, fleeing from their homeland to Egypt to escape the murderous plan of Herod. These refugees may be the faces of the hungry and homeless, especially the children. Without hope for the future, they look to us to find at least a glimpse of “the face of God.”
