Daily Meditation for October 16, 2025

In The Joy of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudium), Pope Francis writes, “I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets…” He states that we need to be a community of faith, to be supportive of our sisters and brothers who are struggling to find the strength, light and consolation needed for daily living. Pope Francis encourages us to move beyond our comfort zone, to listen to the needs of others, and to respond with love.

In our world today, many turn to social media for support. Although this can be helpful in some situations and circumstances, studies have shown that reliance on and heavy use of social media cause mental health issues, including anxiety and depression.

Can we be a Church that goes out on the streets? Can we respond physically to those in need? How can we get a little dirty and live the joy of the Gospel?
