Daily Meditation for May 10, 2024

All of us experience the ups and downs, the lows and highs of life, and long for calm and steadiness, enabling us to keep going. At times, we look to family, friends and maybe a counselor to help us do so. Often prayer is the real solution, a cry for help when it seems all else fails. Today’s Scripture readings, Acts and John’s Gospel, reassure us that God is a constant refuge for us. We need never despair. In Acts, Paul hears God say, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” Paul faces hostility as he preaches the Good News of Jesus and suffers for it; God’s promise of help sustains him. In the Gospel, John quotes Jesus saying, “Ask the Father anything in my name and it will be granted.” This is the greatest reassurance of all: God remains steadfast in love.
