Daily Meditation for May 7, 2026
Are you still celebrating Easter? Hopefully, yes! We are in the season of Eastertide, a 50-day celebration, beginning on Easter Sunday and continuing until Pentecost, which this year falls on May 24. This period of sustained joy enables us to process the enormity of what Christ’s resurrection means for us humans. Something stupendous happened which revolutionized the world order. What appeared to be defeat as Jesus died on the Cross is turned into triumph when Jesus rises from the dead. Yet the Resurrection does not mean that there is no work left to do. The disciples become the hands, mouth and feet of Christ. Those disciples include us. Pentecost marks the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. Eastertide is when we ready ourselves for that moment. Contemplating the Easter message through these 50 days prepares us to take on the task of true Christian discipleship.
