Daily Meditation for April 27, 2026
When God speaks, things happen! “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Gen. 1:3). How amazing is that? There was nothing, and then there was, well, everything! When God speaks, worlds are created; God’s words are powerful. So are ours. St. James reminds us: “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry (James 1: 12). In today’s news and conversations, heated words are often the norm instead of the exception. Listening might seem to be a lost art. St. Benedict reminds his followers, “Listen with the ear of your heart” so that love will be the mark of community rather than division. A good examen at the end of the day might include a question: How have I used my words today; have I brought light into the lives of those with whom I have interacted?
