Daily Meditation for May 27, 2025

Summer often comes early in Minnesota. We thrill to see the buds bursting with “golden green” and to bask in the sun as it warms the earth. We think of it as a season for greater leisure. But for many, it is a time filled with non-stop activities. Parents drive one child to soccer practice before picking up another from swimming lessons. The lawn and garden have to be prepared for planting. Bicycles need tune-ups—oh, and then there is the dock to put in at the lake. At Saint Benedict’s Monastery, we sponsor a program entitled “Sacred Pause.” It’s a day for taking time to step away, even if momentarily, from the high-speed pace of life. Taking a “sacred pause” is a way to simply breathe in the fresh, lovely moments of a new season and to rediscover summer as a season of leisure.
