Daily Meditation for May 16, 2025
Traditionally, May Day is celebrated on May 1. It marks the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. In the past, May 1 was considered “May Basket Day,” when children would gather flowers, candy or other goodies and put them in homemade paper baskets and then deliver them to the homes of neighbors or loved ones. The custom was to hang the basket on the doorknob, knock on the door, and then scamper away. If the neighbor opened the door and saw the child running away, it was the practice to chase the child and, if caught, give the basket-hanger a special hug. Although we are now half-way through May, it is never too late to spread a little May cheer to a special neighbor or loved one. More than anything, our world needs signs of love and kindness to others. Happy May!
