Daily Meditation for May 9, 2025
In his Easter message, Pope Francis wrote, “We must take action, set out to look for him, the Risen Christ, look for him in life, look for him in the faces of our brothers and sisters, look for him in everyday business, look for him everywhere except in the tomb.” In an emphatic way, Francis himself saw the Risen Christ in the poor, the victims of war, the homeless and hungry, those stripped of their humanity. He was outspoken and direct in his confrontations with the sources of evil and those who perpetuate death rather than life. Imagine how things might change if we began each day with the commitment to obey Pope Francis to “take action” and to “look for Christ everywhere!” What if we “took action” to build bridges of empathy with the suffering Christ and opposed walls whose purpose is to separate and hide the face of Christ.
