Daily Meditation for April 1, 2025
Questions are dangerous. They lead us to the mouth of caves in our knowledge, understanding and wisdom. In the natural world, caves can harbor both beauty and danger. Caves in Ecuador are home to colonies of nesting hummingbirds. In Minnesota, bears are just waking up from hibernation, hungry and irritable. The caves to which questions lead us are the same. For instance, as citizens and communities of faith we might ask what we can do to counter injustice and blatant cruelty in our country and the world. We will have to go past half-truths and helplessness into the darkness of the cave. There we might find opposition, cynicism and even hatred. But we might find fellow questioners, just waking from a long sleep, or communities of faith singing songs of hope and then going out to live what they have sung. Are we brave enough to ask the real questions we can no longer silence and follow where they lead us?
