Daily Meditation for March 20, 2025

Jack Frost surprised the family with his paintings of frosty, wispy, fern-like designs on the windows in the breakfast nook. When the sun shone through them, the patterns became ethereal. The delicate beauty stopped the family’s chatter and moved them to awe. Where did the designs come from? Who painted them? These questions were asked but no scientific answer was wanted. Just let us enjoy the beauty. Some of the children had never seen such paintings; windows at home were too secure to allow the dynamics Jack needed to paint. Nature’s generosity often goes unnoticed. An infant gurgling her bottle, the colors on an emerald ash beetle, Grandpa’s whistling as he polishes a wooden handle, the comfort of stroking a kitten, the taste of a cucumber. Let’s turn to children to teach us to notice, appreciate, question, delight, wonder. Our daily routine will likely become more punctuated by welcome surprises.
