Daily Meditation for February 10, 2025

It was a Liturgy of the Word Celebration at the parish shortly after Christmas and what I thought would be the perfect topic with the wiggly Latino kids participating: favorite gift you received and favorite gift given. To my opening question (never did get to the second) of favorite gift received, the most common answer was “Nada” (either they couldn’t remember or really received nothing). The conversation that followed was most interesting. “But everybody came to our house for dinner!” “We all went to my auntie’s house.” “Do my new boots count?” One loud response was, “My family was my best Christmas gift.” About 12 other little heads bobbed in agreement. A lone voice was heard, “I sure liked the red Jell-O we had.” Hence our closing prayer had to be “Thank you, mama and papa and brothers and sisters and all the rest of you who are ‘mi familia,’ for you are my most precious Christmas gift!”
