Daily Meditation for March 21, 2022

Today is the Feast of St. Benedict. He lived in the sixth century when the great Roman Empire was disintegrating. It was a time as turbulent as our own time. St. Benedict was a man of God— leading like-minded people to live Gospel values. To this end, he wrote the Rule of St. Benedict which he called “a little Rule for beginners” and a school to learn to serve the Lord. He wrote the Rule for monks, but its sound principles of working and living together have proved relevant to people of all classes of society through 1,500 years. Today many monastic men and women and oblates live the Rule which establishes prayer, work, and treating each person as Christ as essential to Gospel living. Thank you, God, for St. Benedict—a guide and companion on our spiritual journey.
