Daily Meditation for December 30, 2024

As daunting as it is to come to the close of yet another year, the advice of the traditional Auld Lang Syne event takes on a slightly different twist this year: as we recall old and good friends, good times, and wonderful memories, maybe this year instead of TAKING a cup together, we need to GIVE A CUP OF KINDNESS to many. Those we have drifted away from, those with whom we might not agree, the disenfranchised, the “undeserving”, the strange, and the stranger, the immigrant; those who we think are of little account. From our perch of plenty, maybe we could give a cup of kindness for Auld Lang Syne. We could join a helping organization, do a service project, study why we have the social problems we have, or give a donation to a proven charity. May your old year of satisfaction give way to the dawn of a new year of hope and helping.
