Daily Meditation for December 5, 2024

Recently, at coffee with a friend, I noticed a message on my coaster upon which many cups had already washed away the author’s name:

“‘Tis the human touch in the world that counts, the touch of your hand in mine,

that means so much more to the failing heart than shelter or bread or wine,

for shelter is gone when the night is over, and bread lasts only a day;

but the touch of your hand and the sound of your voice sing on in my soul always.”

Whose hand will you touch today? Who is thirsting for your or my hand, our visit, smile or comfort? Who might have forgotten the song in his soul if my hand were not touching his or our voices not speaking to her heart? “‘Tis human touch that counts, that means so much to the failing heart … Even more than shelter or bread or wine.”

Our conversation changed that day!
