Daily Meditation for November 28, 2024
What’s left? The answer to this question can lead to deepest grief and despair in troubled times. But not always. Sometimes the answer to that question can lead to unexpected blessings. For instance, when you lose your vision, you also lose the sight of maple trees, radiant in the October sun, and the sight of dear faces. But what is left is the rustle off fall leaves, the juice of a Honeycrisp apple, laughter and singing, and the warm guiding hand of a friend. When a tornado rages through a town, uprooting giant trees and turning homes to rubble, what’s left are the lives spared, small mementos, and friends and strangers hurrying from all directions with hearts and hands ready to help. Even in the total devastation of war when nothing seems to be left, peacemakers insist that peace is possible, and that all of us must seek peace and pursue it. These peacemakers are one of the surest signs that God, who is our peace, never has and never will leave us.
