Daily Meditation for November 26, 2024

Warsan Shire, a young British writer, poet, editor and teacher, was born to Somali parents in Kenya. She wrote: “…I held an atlas in my lap, ran my fingers across the whole world and whispered: where does it hurt? It answered: everywhere, everywhere, everywhere.” We have seen places all over the world hurt by storms, floods, fires and earthquakes, and in addition, wars and persecution. News programs show poor people fleeing on foot and by boat carrying their meager belongings in plastic sacks, trying to find a place in the world that does not hurt. Do we have the ability to heal the world’s pain at least in the place we live? Some healing actions could be to welcome the strangers we meet, donate food and clothing to charitable organizations, and care for the environment. But most of all, we can pray every day for God’s protection of this hurting world.
