Daily Meditation for November 15, 2024

Many people say November is their least favorite month. It can be dark and dreary. How can we rescue November from this bleak sentence? We can cherish the silence and the solitude that this season provides with a kind of quiet, patient gratitude. No sense rushing the season of festivity that lies ahead. The present moment contains colorful joys at this time of year. Notice the winter birds that have returned to your feeder: the flash of red, the brilliant blue; sunny “tweets” and “chirps.” See the conifers in brightest green and black nights hung with silver stars. Sunsets are a maze of purples, pinks and pale chartreuse. And you said November was dismal? Look again—here comes the snow! Whitest white that dazzles the eye. Welcome November, a kaleidoscope of color and sound. And don’t forget Tom Turkey with his rainbow-spread tail.
