Daily Meditation for October 15, 2024

We all hope for mercy. We are none of us perfect and none of us go through life without hurting someone else. We can’t do anything to earn our forgiveness and so we all hope for God’s mercy. When we ask for mercy, are we simply hoping that God will go easy on us, let us off the hook? Or are we asking for something more profound? Yes. We are asking for understanding of ourselves as flawed human beings. Hoping for God’s mercy includes asking for God’s understanding of who and what we are. In turn, when we show mercy, we are not doing so from a position of weakness, but from a place of understanding where we do not judge the motivations and actions of another and choose not to condemn but to forgive.
