Articles Written by Sister Katherine Howard and Oblate Almut Furchert Published in The Journal of Social Encounters

Articles written by Sister Katherine Howard and Dr. Almut Furchert, an oblate and former Studium scholar, were published in volume 8, issue 2 of The Journal of Social Encounters (JSE). The JSE is an “interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, peace and justice studies journal published online by the Center for Social Justice and Ethics at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya, in collaboration with the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.” It is published online twice a year on the CSB+SJU Digital Commons.

S. Katherine’s article, entitled “Review of Monastic Ecological Wisdom: A Living Tradition,” explores the following question: “What can we learn from Christian monasteries about ecological sustainability?”

Almut’s article, entitled “Cosmic Partnership: Hildegard of Bingen’s Vision of an Integral Ecology,” reflects on the ecological philosophy of Hildegard of Bingen, a Benedictine abbess named a patron of ecology, and explores the “relationship between humanity and creation as a cosmic partnership.”
