Daily Meditation for April 9, 2024
I have often been amazed at what seems to me the great humility of St. Paul! He commits grave crimes against the infant church. He admits that his zeal, ignorance and dedication to Jewish Law and the prophets made him a feared, blood-thirsty enemy of the young Church. Yet, on his knees in the desert, he responds to the voice that calls out to him. He asks, “Who are you?” then,“What shall I do?” He follows the instructions given him and becomes a new person! A follower of Jesus! Paul had not known the earthly Jesus; he counted himself as “least of all the disciples” (1 Cor. 15:9) and eventually gives his own life in witness to the church founded by Jesus. As we continue to celebrate Christ’s resurrection, may those who feel “least of all” find a home in the church founded by Jesus and witnessed to by martyrs, even in our day.
