Springtime provides us a good opportunity to recall a familiar Bible story that Jesus told, describing the farmer who went out to his field to sow some seeds. Some seeds ended up being trampled, some eaten by birds, or some lost due to weeds or lack of moisture. But some seeds fell on good ground and eventually produced a rich harvest. What can we learn from this story? Jesus tells us to pay attention to the Word of God planted in the heart of each person. Just as spring provides us with new birth, life and hope, so can the Word of God come to us in new and fresh ways. As we go about planting our fields, gardens and flower beds, let us keep an eye and ear open for any surprises God may send our way this spring.
