Daily Meditation for February 14, 2023

Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s a day to exchange cards, give gifts of chocolates or flowers, and to tell someone you love them. Indeed, St. Valentine’s Day is sometimes called “the holiday of love.” Over the years, Valentine’s Day has grown from focusing primarily on romantic love to become a more inclusive celebration, absorbing friendship, platonic love, and simple care for another person. Despite its commercialization, Valentine’s Day remains, at heart, a celebration of love. As such, it’s a reminder to Christians of love’s centrality in our lives. If we desire to follow Christ and are committed to the Gospel, we are committed to love. Love is our calling, and this “holiday of love” calls us to reflect on how we make our love known to the world, not just on this day, but every day. “Holiday” is derived from the words “holy day.” Let’s be sure to make every day a “holy day of love.”
