Hope is the foundation for living a purposeful life. Why do individuals make a real effort to choose the good over the easier evil? Because they hope that they will be rewarded by God, so are confident about the future. A hopeful man, President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, was recently named Man of the Year because of his courage and leadership in a time of great suffering. Closer to our own lives, many of our decisions and priorities are fueled by hope: New Year’s resolutions, joining community organizations, starting a business, practicing the piano, exercising every day. All of these chosen because of hope that they will result in an improvement in some aspect of life. Being hopeful when making life choices is a good start. President Zelenskyy demonstrates that persistence in living in hope and not giving up are the next steps.
