“The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened.” It’s not hard to picture this woman at her kitchen counter mixing and kneading her dough as the yeast within begins its magic. This is a parable Jesus gives to demonstrate how God’s presence in our lives can change us. For a moment, think of God as if God is the yeast in the dough of our lives. To activate and allow the Divine yeast to make a difference, we must be mixed up, kneaded, and punched down. It’s not an easy or quick process. It takes time to see the effects of the yeast and the dramatic change it makes in the dough. Like the dough, we too become bread—bread, not just for ourselves, but for all who are hungry.
