A popular quilt design is called “crazy quilt” because it is made from fabric scraps and remnants of diverse shapes, sizes, colors, and textures that are pieced together. The combination of dark and light pieces and the great variety of shapes and sizes enhance the beauty of the quilt. Our own lives are similar to a crazy quilt because our lives, too, are made up of a variety of pieces, including joys, sorrows, successes, failures, friendships, lost loves, and experiences of many sizes and shapes. This combination of dark and light moments, crippling sorrows and life-giving joys often gives deep meaning and great beauty to our lives. Just as quilters use discarded scraps and remnants and turn them into something beautiful, we, too, can stitch together the light and the dark pieces of our lives and transform them, so that we may become the beautiful work of art that we were created to be.
