Daily Meditation for December 10, 2021

Today is the birthday of an American poet, Emily Dickinson, born 1830. She once wrote: “I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word, and sometimes I write one and look at it until it begins to shine.” Upon reflection, I was reminded of God’s Word–the Word, Jesus; whom, if we look long enough, begins to shine especially during the season of Advent. Jesus is God’s Word spoken to us in history. Or we can reflect upon all the words spoken in anger, words heard at a political rally, and words delivered each evening during the nightly news. There are so many words flung at us daily. When do we stop, pause, and ponder the most important words we have ever heard? I invite you to ponder a word or words you heard lately that have caused you to look at them long enough for them to shine for you.
