“Somehow, all the pieces will fit together,” I tell myself as I empty the box and begin sorting out the edge pieces. I had brought the 550-piece puzzle with me to retreat as a quiet, reflective activity. Putting a puzzle together during my retreat helps me reflect on how God is putting me together. Do I work with God in His plan for me? Or do I try to put the puzzle of life together on my own?
In a jigsaw puzzle, each piece has only one place; it is up to me to figure it all out. Once the edges are in place, I work with the inner pieces. Will this piece fit here? The color is right, then I realize the shape is different. Realizing that both color and shape must match, I put the piece down and look for another. I smile as I continue the process, finding the right pieces most of the time on first or second try. When all the pieces are finally together, there will be a beautiful picture. I believe that for God, it does not matter how often we try putting together the pieces of our life. He knows our puzzle will someday be complete if we never give up.
