COVID-19 has made us halt! Often quiet down! Slow down! Think outside of the box, as it were. Pray. Principally be in the moment. And in that moment seek something new—perhaps suffer a bit without falling apart. And even wonder how one might grow because of the suffering. A recent opinion promotes thought: “When we refuse suffering, we are saying NO to growth!” Now that is startling, when growth might be hearing the sounds of spring, the thunder following lightning, the excitement in children’s rush out of the school building, the meanings in another’s conversation, or even the truth in today’s Gospel: “Whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified.” What if we could consistently trust those words, look for growth even if nothing seems to change in us? Even if COVID continues to be our reality?
