During the coronavirus, body temperatures are recorded for patients, employees, and visitors. Recently, newspaper columnists and news anchors have metaphorically taken the temperature of the nation as things have heated up. Today, body cameras and social media catch the fever rising in individuals and rioters. Heat not only burns within the body, it destroys city blocks when it’s gotten out of hand. We know how to cool a feverish body and moderate heated rooms. By what measures can we cool down a raging spirit, restore well-being for a people? With a new year, we each are empowered to keep fever from getting out of hand politically, socially, medically. This is our time to modify temperature with the best of will and initiatives for the good of all.
