It is about 10 minutes before prayer begins. The sisters are gathering from all corners of the monastery. Some come with quick steps, some at a slower pace, some with a walker or an electric cart. Outside the Oratory windows is a row of small, low bushes. Minute bits of white float to the earth with ease, forming caps of snow on the bushes. As extraordinary artistic patterns appear, one notices how various exquisite creatures, whether real or imaginary, take shape. Together they become a whole, a community supporting and complementing each other. We too, freely and lovingly, become a community giving praise to our God by becoming one in prayer and in the life we live in common. Moving into the day, we are strengthened by the assurance that God is present and that our life in community is enriched through the giving of each member.
