“Repent and believe in the Gospel!” These words from the Gospel of Mark call us to look at our lives and see what may need to be changed. During these days of Lent, we are challenged to look at three areas in our relationship with God and others. The first area is prayer: How do I pray? For whom or what do I pray? The second is fasting: What needs to be given up in my life so I can deepen my relationship with God? It may be food, gambling or an attitude of pride. The third is almsgiving: I may give a donation of money or food to the food shelf. Or I may reach out to someone who is lonely and needs a visitor. You may prepare a meal for a neighbor who needs time to do something for their soul—just being quiet.
