Daily Meditation for December 22, 2020
[During Evening Prayer on the last days before Christmas, a series of seven hymns are sung to recall metaphors of Christ’s coming. All begin with the word “O” and are called the O Antiphons.] The Antiphon this evening is O Ruler. “O Ruler of the nations and true desire of our hearts! You are the cornerstone binding us all into a home for God. Come and free us, whom you formed from earth.” We are homes for God, each one of us. How can we betray this important truth of our creation by our rejection of anyone? We pray for us to bind together, a mutuality of love and respect, because of this oneness in God. No person is ignored or despised. If we become convinced of this, we can be real lovers of God and of humanity.
