Daily Meditation for December 21, 2020
[During Evening Prayer on the last days before Christmas, a series of seven hymns are sung to recall metaphors of Christ’s coming. All begin with the word “O” and are called the O Antiphons.] The fifth Antiphon “O Oriens” is sung today. “O Rising Sun, splendor of Eternal light and brilliant Sun of Justice, come and light up the darkness concealing from us the path to life.” We all long for justice and ask the hand of God to intervene in the chaos we have created for ourselves. We beg for justice for developing nations, the poor, families, and for the earth itself. Sometimes in the most ordinary circumstances, the light of grace crosses our pathway and stops with us to reveal the way of wisdom.
