There is a prayer that starts by saying, “Teach us to discover the gift of each thing and fill with awe how profoundly united we are to every creature.” I think of this especially as the snow falls on this late October and how it is usually at this time of year that mice and other small creatures are looking for a safe place for the winter months. At this time of COVID-19 and concern for being held in too long, perhaps think of the small creatures we see in nature and how they must make a place for themselves so they can survive through the cold of winter. From these little creatures, we can think of the “little (poor) people” that lack a place of warmth for themselves and their children and need to make do. Or we can think of those who live in areas that been burnt by forest fires and have only temporary housing to live through the winter.
